Portfolio > Cash Register Portraits

This series of works investigates an innocuous symbol of consumer culture, the cash register. It is a utilitarian object that goes unnoticed which unendingly calculates our debt and is a receptacle for the offering of our earnings. The images of these machines are intended to represent the core of our economic culture, spending and debt. Yet each one conveys a particular expression, with a distinct personality. Each register is painted larger than life, to symbolically emphasize the power they wield over our lives.
